About this Winery

(SPANISH FILM - 1990)  Gustavete - who is mute as a result of an explosion - is one of a trio of traveling vaudeville performers amidst the chaos of the Spanish Civil War.  The dangers and deprivation that they encounter in the republic side encourage the trio to go to Valencia/Alicante and end up in nationalist territory where they are arrested and taken as prisoners and must stage a burlesque of the Republic in exchange for their freedom, as patriotic as they are.

Gustavete el Mudo

Gustavete el Mudo

  • VARIETAL: Monastrell
  • APPELLATION: DO Alicante
  • TASTING NOTES:
A deep violet colour in the glass. In the nose this wine displays black cherries, plums and earthy minerality and a full bodied but elegant palate.

Description

100% Monastrell - Old vines.  In this part of Alicante the climate is slightly cooler and the soils harder due to the ‘Altiplano Subbético’. The drying temperatures leave less moister in the soil; most of it comes from the humidity of the Mediterranean winds. These drying conditions result in great potential for aroma of the grapes.

  • VARIETAL: Garnatxa Blanca
  • APPELLATION: Terra Alta
  • TASTING NOTES:
Medium straw-colored, it exhibits an attractive perfume of mineral, spring flowers, white peach, and melon that jumps from the glass. On the palate, it is exceptionally concentrated, mouth-filling, and vibrant with plenty of spicy fruit, good depth, and a fruit-filled finish.

Description

A selection of handpicked old vine Garnacha Blanca was made from Las Colinas del Ebro Blanco.  The grapes were de-stemmed and lightly crushed before being gently pressed and then cold settled before temperature controlled fermentation.  A portion of the free run macerated juice was added to the fermentation to give complexity.
